European Historical GIS Initiative A consortium of academics from Lancaster University (UK), the Queens University Belfast (UK), the Institute of European History, Mainz (Germany) and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (USA) have been exploring the potential to develop an integrated European Historical GIS. To this end, a number of meetings have taken place, most recently at the Queen's University of Belfast (Feb. 2005) and the University of Mainz (Feb. 2007). A further meeting took place at Lancaster University in December 2007 and we held a conference session on this theme at the European Social Science History Conference in Lisbon at the end of February 2008. As an initial part of this programme we are conducting an inventory of Historical GIS resources that currently exist in Europe or that are relevant to European history. If you have any such resources or are interested in collaborating with this proposal in any way then please email Ian Gregory. |
